The first water metro was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. It connects 10 islands. The dream project was funded by Kerala government and German company KFW.

The Kochi Water Metro will not only boost the economy of the state of Kerala but also contribute to the tourism sector. Let’s know what are the fares and special features of this first water metro. There are 78 electric boats and 38 terminals under the Kochi Water Metro project.

In the first phase, KWM service will start from High Court Vipin Terminal, Vytila-Kakkanad Terminals. This distance can be reached in less than 20 minutes. Kakanad can be reached in 25 minutes by water metro from Vaityla.

The water metro fare is at least 20 rupees. Regular passes are also given for weekly and monthly. One can also travel on Water Metro using Kochi One Card. Tickets can be booked digitally with the help of Kochi One app.

It is powered by lithium titanate spinel battery. Water Metro provides eco-friendly, electric and safe transportation to the public. It is fully air-conditioned and has a view of the water from inside. Its construction cost Rs.1,137 crores.
