Doctors, nursing, and support staff of the hospital participated in the march along with the employees of The Chennai Silks (Kukatpally) and of Sree Kumaran Thangamaligai jewelers (Mehdipatnam). Around 150 people took part in the activity to spread the message and appeal to quit smoking.

Anand movie fame actor Mr. Raja attended the event as chief guest; and spoke on the urgent need to quit smoking to build a healthy India. Also present on the occasion were Dr. B Kishore Reddy, Managing Director, Amor Hospitals, along with representatives of The Chennai Silks and Sree Kumaran Thangamaligai jewelers.

Commenting on the event, Dr. Kishore B. Reddy, Managing Director, Amor Hospitals said, “Nicotine emerging from tobacco stimulates the release of the chemical dopamine in the brain and gives instant pleasure to the individual who is smoking. But this instant pleasure could turn into an economic and health disaster for the individual and his entire family. We at Amor Hospitals believe in well-being of the society, and all our efforts, like this will be towards spreading awareness on ill-effects of human wrongdoings on their health.”

Many smokers report that they enjoy the ritual of smoking and gives them a pleasurable feeling along with relieving them of nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Many people who smoke cigarettes dread the idea of quitting, because they fear the phase when withdrawal symptoms trouble them the most.
